SDXC here soon - Massive Storage with Incredible speed!

"SDXC, what is it? It is the same physical size of a normal everyday SD or MMC memory card. However, don’t let the looks fool you with this little beauty. This new card which is set to launch either at the end of this year or early 2010 will have a storage capacity range from 32GB to 2TB! WOW! Pretec say that they will be first of the rank with Panasonic to launch a 64GB card as soon as feasibly possible. SDHC has been around for a while with storage capacities capping at 32GB. Launched in Las Vegas CES in January this year, it is set to take the world by storm. Regrettably, pricing and availability is still yet to be determined, but the comments from manufacturers such as Panasonic is that it'll be somewhere between "pricey" and "crazy expensive."

There are currently no Camera’s, phones or computers manufactured to accept these cards as yet, but we can be sure they will be available at the time of launch.

How much stuff can we put on these cards you ask? A 2TB (terabyte) card will be able to store up to 100 HD movies, 60 hours of recording on a HD recorder, or 17,000 high res photos. Think of what this will mean for HD video cameras with a new SDXC slot? Pop your card in and just keep recording, don’t worry about running out of space. What will this mean for Mobile phones? Phones will suddenly become your own entertainment centre, with virtually unlimited space for MP3’s, Photo’s and video.

Speed; These cards will run at amazing 104 megabytes per second, with a roadmap plan to have them run at a blinding 300 megabytes per second! Now 32GB SDHC cards which still hold the ‘wow factor’ runs at 30 Megabytes per second… Camera’s will have a much smoother continuous shooting speed, and video cameras will have no lag time in frame rate.

The form factor may be the same, however there are no plans for these cards to be backward compatible in a standard SD slot. The reason for this is that the cards with employ Microsofts exFAT file system, which is far different to the current FAT16/32 system most computers use now.
