Solution 1:

Disconnect and re-connect the USB device again to ensure the PC or Laptop register the peripheral connected..

Solution 2:

For a high power device such as USB powered portable hard drive, “Y” type USB cable may be required to connect 2 USB ports.  (Refer to the instruction manual of the USB device or contact the manufacturer for further information)

Solution 3:

Check the length of USB cable connected.  The performance of the USB device connected may be affected with over 5M cable in length.  Use a shorter USB cable to connect the USB device if required.

Tips & Hints

A note on power

For improved compatibility, this hub reports to the computer’s operating system that it is self-powered. This is only true when the product is externally powered through its DC socket. For full 500mA per port capability this DC supply must be rated at 5VDC 2A. Note that a DC power supply is not provided with this product.

When a DC supply is not connected, the product is bus-powered and draws all its power from the USB socket it is connected to. Users should be aware of the following:

  • The combined loading of all the USB devices connected to the hub cannot exceed the power available from the single USB socket that powers the hub.
  • Commonly, up to 4 low-power or self-powered devices can be connected, but no more than 1 bus-powered, full-power device (such as a Hard Disc) should be connected.
  • The hub’s power requirement, as reported by the computer’s operating system, may be incorrect.
